What has Dr Georgia been up to? Lucky Dr Georgia! Such beautiful animals!
Had to add this great photo from Christmas in July!
Playing with your cat or kitten can often result in playful nips from them. In most cases this will result in a few marks and a few red and itchy spots.
Cat bites should always be washed and if the redness increases and there is swelling involved, medical attention should be sought, as antibiotics may be needed.
Bites from cats develop infections more often then dog bites. Cats’ teeth are pointed and sharp and cause penetrating wounds which quickly close over trapping bacteria. The mouth of a cat is a hotbed of resident flora including Pasteurella, Staph, Bartonella and Streptococcus species.
One of our clients recently experienced the full range of problems that a cat bite can cause. Charlie Strike was bitten on the hand by his cat, Zennie. Initially his hand became swollen and red, then infection set in and Charlie underwent surgeries including a skin graft. He is not finished yet.
Fortunately Charlie is now on the mend and his hand has made significant improvement. His story shows the importance of seeking medical attention promptly. We thank Charlie for sharing his story with us.

If you are looking for a new forever pet then contact us. We run our own rescue service.
We have carers who foster our adoptees so that our rescue animals are in family situations being handled daily and being loved.
We will soon come into kitten season when the number of kittens left at the clinic will increase dramatically.
Each week the adoptees available are listed with photos here in the blog.
Our nurse Priscilla co-ordinates our rescue and adoption service and is a champion re-homer. She is contactable on firstname.lastname@example.org or by phoning the clinic.
